Time for another update on the recent free agent signings going down in the WNBA.

Trade: Connecticut Sun send Elizabeth Williams to the Atlanta Dream in exchange for No. 4 overall pick
I think this is a very interesting swap. For the Dream, after losing Erika de Souza in a block-buster trade, the organization felt like they needed depth in a position that wasn't going to be filled by anyone favorable in the upcoming draft. With Elizabeth Williams, they get a solid young post who they can develop for the future. For the Sun, post depth was certaintly not a problem with the return of Chiney Ogwumike and having Kelsey Bone, Camille Little, and Kayla Peterson leaving Williams the odd woman out. The No. 4 pick gives them another option to target whoever they think might fit on their roster.
The Sun now own the No. 3 and No. 4 picks in the 2016 WNBA draft. It is also possible Connecticut could go after another free agent with those said picks.
Latoya Sanders - Washington Mystics (Re-signed)
Latoya Sanders became an excellent addition for the Mystics last year averaging 5.0 PPG and 5.7 RPG. She was a great defensive presence serving 4.6 blocks per game. However, she may miss some time this season due to her olympic commitments with the Turkish national team.

Erika de Souza - Chicago Sky (Re-signed)
I think it was right on Chicago's part to bring back Erika de Souza, who will also miss the first half of the season in preparation for the olympics. While her numbers did decline after joining the team in a mid-season trade (5.5 PPG, 5.5 RPG) I think if she could find her role within Pokey Chatman's system, she can return to her All-Star form.
Carla Cortijo - Atlanta Dream (Re-signed)
In all honesty, I don't know much about her, but for the Dream to want to invest in her must be a high honor. Only playing in two of the final regular season games last year, she became the first player born in Puerto Rico to play in the WNBA.
February 5,
Shekinna Stricklen - Connecticut Sun (Re-signed)
Shekinna Sticklen is a dependable 3pt shooter who can spread the floor at 6'2. I do find it interesting that the terms of her contract were released signing a two year deal with the Sun.
