The 2017 WNBA season will tip off on Saturday May 13th and end on Sunday September 3rd with 9 National TV games televised. This is a slight decrease from the 14 National TV games across the ESPN family of networks that were aired this past season.
My personal gripe is with the opening day schedule for the Los Angeles Sparks as 2017 will mark their 6th time opening up against the Seattle Storm dating back to May 18, 2012. While I understand that this is suppose to a "marquee" match-up involving an accomplished list of MVP's, Rookie of the Year winners, Olympians, and 5 WNBA titles combined for both teams. It makes for a repetitive meeting that has both Storm and especially Sparks fans shaking their heads in disgust. It would've made more sense for the WNBA to build off the hype of the WNBA Finals by having the defending champs face off against the Minnesota Lynx at the Xcel Energy Center on May 13, not on July 6th.
